About The Agape House
The Agape House is a division of
His
Manifest Glory Christian Ministries, Inc.
We are a non-profit 501 (c)3 based corporation providing an adult supervised,
structured environment for single young mothers and their children. Pastors
Edward and Dorothy Smith direct The Agape House with a professional staff.
Our Mission is Compassion and Affirmation
The Mission of The Agape House is to provide compassionate and affirming housing for single women and their children who are in crisis and homeless, while meeting their physical, mental and spiritual needs. We are committed to providing practical support while demonstrating the unconditional love and acceptance that is inspired through personal faith.
Providing a Second Chance for Single Mothers
The Agape House is a mid- to long-term transitional living facility for single mothers desiring self-sufficiency and skills to successfully acquire permanent housing.
Shelters, social services, churches, maternity homes and other programs are often the access points to our programs. Upon arrival, we provide the security, structure and opportunities needed for young women to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness. We provide a family atmosphere and communal support that supports their personal healing and growth. Patterned after nationally recognized programs of education, recovery and counseling, the young women at The Agape House have a second chance to develop a positive future for themselves and their children so that they can re-enter society as healthy, whole and productive citizens.H
We Feature The New Life Program
The Agape House residents participate in the New Life Program. The New Life Program consists of three phases and eleven levels and utilizes a faith based curriculum addressing issues such as domestic violence, parenting, child development and a variety of educational courses. This innovative program integrates academics, spiritual development, employment skills, life skills and personal counseling. Young mothers may continue their involvement in the New Life Program for up to 24 months.
We also feature an on-site computer enhanced Literacy & Education Center that enables our young mothers to earn their high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and meet other career goals while in our program. In addition to academic and vocational courses, our young mothers are offered life skills classes such as communications, decision making, budgeting, nutrition, health and exercise, anger management and effective parenting—all geared towards achieving self-sufficiency. The Agape House provides a progressive incentive program, offered during the final four months of the full program, that assists our young mothers to save for the future, and further promotes their successful reintegration to independent living situations.
The Agape House
also provides critical services to the children in our program. We seek
to
create an environment where children
become empowered to be confident, successful, secure and caring people
who are committed to a lifetime of learning. Our program introduces the
world as an invitation to grow and live life fully—to see a world filled
with possibilities that are within their reach. We teach children to approach
school and academics with skills, confidence, and a drive to succeed, thus
breaking the cycle of poverty and hopelessness. H
A Safe Haven for Personal Growth
We are a safe haven for women and children whose only alternatives are either homelessness or life in an abusive situation. Our programs address the whole person, focusing on the mental and physical needs—such as food, clothing and shelter—as well as practical needs—such as the need for developing the skills necessary to successfully negotiate life, inspiring and promoting self-confidence, engaging in spiritual development activities, and creating an atmosphere that promotes self-empowerment. H
The Agape House's extensive recovery program helps women and children in crisis to break the cycle of poverty by providing time and resources to ultimately establish permanent housing and employment, as well as develop their involvement in a church and in their community. The program includes educational assistance, life and job skill development, parenting classes, one-on-one counseling and spiritual guidance. The need is great, and we look forward to meeting it by helping women get their lives turned around at The Agape House.
The women in the New Life Program stay at The Agape House for a period of 6 to 24 months, after which the ladies will transition into their own permanent housing. Last year 32 women and 65 children were helped by the program, but we received 10 times more calls for assistance than we were able to accommodate. The Agape House also has several emergency beds for women and women with children.Women with children have become the fastest growing segment of the homeless population and the need in the Inland Empire for assistance to women has risen dramatically. Combined with our off-site feeding program last year we served over 25,000 nutritious meals, issued over 30,000 items of clothing, and provided over 5040 nights of shelter for our residents and emergency clients.
We are currently in the planning stages to expand this program substantially in size and scope. Please pray with us, for us and ask The Lord how you can help as we move forward in this vital ministry.
The Agape House provides an atmosphere of unconditional love for the emancipated minor and adult women between the ages of 18 and 25.
